The
traveling exhibition, "Opening Doors to Rights", conceived by the
Catalan Ombudsman to demonstrate the institution's history and work,
can be visited at the Vilartagues Civic Center in Sant Feliu de
Guíxols (pl. Salvador Espriu s/n) from July 1 to 11.

Catalan
Ombudsman Rafael Ribó will take part next July 10 in the Annual
Meeting of University Ombudspersons and Advocates of the Vives
University Network, which includes most universities in the
Catalan-speaking regions of Spain. This year's meeting will be held
at the University of Valencia.

The report
offers an overarching diagnosis of the protection system and reveals
indicators of its saturation and several shortcomings. Analysis of
the figures points to a significant increase in the resources
allocated to the protection system. They have risen by 28% in the
2003-2007 period. This is in line with the increase in the number of
children under protection (27%). That notwithstanding, the increased
number of professionals on Children and Adolescent Affairs Units
(CAAUs) and greater residential capacity have not kept the centers
from being at their limit or over their capacity. Many children are
unable to access the resource best suited to their needs.

Catalan Ombudsman "Proòm" of the Aran Valley |

The Aran
Valley Sindic (head of the local authorities), Francesc Boya, and
the Catalan Ombudsman, Rafael Ribó, have signed an agreement between
the two institutions to create the figure of the Aran Valley Proòm.
This is to be a defender of the rights of the Aran Valley
administrants, and guarantor of the proper conduct of
self-government. The Catalan Ombudsman has taken on the name of
Pròom de la Val d'Aran, and will offer a unique viewpoint of
supervision of the Conselh Generau. The results will be taken up,
amongst others, in an annual report.

Catalan
Ombudsman Rafael Ribó has been appointed Chairman of the European
Board of Directors of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI)
after being re-elected Director of the Board during the general
assembly held in Stockholm from June 9 to June 12.This appointment
will entail the establishment in Barcelona of the European region
headquarters.
