As a part of the Human Rights Day celebrations, on December 10, UNICEF has organized the Second Global Meeting of Independent Human Rights Institutions for Children, which is attended by representatives of institutions from the whole world.
The Catalan Ombudsman Deputy for the Defence of Children's Rights, Xavier Bonal, takes part in the Meeting as a representative of the Síndic and as the president of ENOC (European Network of Ombudspersons for Children). The meeting takes place at the UN headquarters, in New York, within the framework of the Special Session on Children. One of its objectives is make the role of independent human rights institutions for children visible as an essential strategy to achieve the implementation of the Convention on Rights of the Child. It is also aimed to enhance the task of a global network of ombudsman for children as ambassadors of independent institutions for children at global level and within their regions.On the occasion of the meeting the Global Network will make public a Call for Action reaffirming commitments made to the realization of children's rights and calling on effective and urgent action from governments to overcome persisting challenges and consolidate progress.
