The Catalan Ombudsman takes part in the IOI Annual Board Meeting
The Catalan Ombudsman (Síndic), Rafael Ribó, attends from November 7th to 9th the Board's Meeting of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), held in Sydney (Australia). Ribó takes part in the Meeting as a Director of the European Region of this international organization consisted of Ombudsmen from 87 different countries.
The three-day meeting Agenda includes sessions on different internal affairs related to the IOI. Representatives of the sixth large regions forming the Institute (which are Europe, Africa, Asia, Australasia and Pacific, Latin America, Caribbean and North America) will also present reports on the human rights situation in each area. Various cooperation activities between IOI and other international organizations will be addressed as well. The main aims are the promotion of the Ombudsman, both the notion and the institution, around the world and to strengthen the exchange of information and experiences amongst different Ombudsman offices. The 2006 IOI Board Meeting was held in Barcelona and organised by the Catalan Ombudsman. This year's organisation is by the Ombudsman of New South Wales.
