The Catalan Ombudsman has nominated Jordi Sŕnchez i Picanyol as deputy general, and Maria Jesús Larios Paterna as deputy for the Defence of Children's and Adolescents' Rights. The Catalan Ombudsman Committee will ratify the proposal for their appointment by the Ombudsman.
These two appointments form part of the process of creation and reorganization of the new executive council. The new proposal will make possible significant budgetary reduction, with economic savings of 25% over the previous staff.
Jordi Sŕnchez i Picanyol (Barcelona 1964) holds a Political Science degree from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Up to now, he had been serving as president of the Jaume Bofill Foundation. He has played an active role in the development of the National Pacts for Education and Immigration. Associate lecturer of Political Science at the University of Barcelona, he has held teaching posts in several other universities.
Maria Jesús Larios i Paterna (Barcelona, 1970), holds a doctorate in Law from the University of Barcelona, where she is a tenured university lecturer. She has been director of Social Affairs and Parliamentary Relations of the Catalan Ombudsman institution since October, 2004.
