The Catalan Ombudsman, in collaboration with the International Association of Language Commissioners (IALC) has organized an international Symposium on Language Rights and social cohesion in multilingual societies, which will take place next March in Barcelona.
The Symposium will be focused on language rights in Catalonia, in Spain and in other multilingual societies. Thoughts will be established taking into account the work carried out by the institutions defending people’s rights (ombudsman and language commissioners) within the framework of an historical, social and legal approach. Registration is free but seats are limited.
The Ministry of Culture, Ferran Mascarell and the Mayor of Barcelona, Xavier will be opening the Conference, which will take place at the Born Cultural Center within the framework of the Tricentenari Commemoration Events and supported by Barcelona's City Hall and the Catalan Government.
The event will gather experts on linguistic rights of national and international scope. In addition to the Catalan Ombudsman, Rafael Ribo will participate, among others, the president of the IALC and Federal Language Commissioner of Canada, Graham Fraser Head of Secretariat of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, Alexey Kozhemyakov, the Professor on Administrative Law by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB ), Antoni Milian and several regional ombudsmen.
The Symposium will be held on 19 and 20 March and will be followed by the International Conference of IALC, on March 21st, held at the Palace of the Catalan Parliament.
