The Town Council of Tortosa violates rights by requiring a certificate of occupancy to register in the municipal census

The Síndic (Catalan Ombudsman) has found that the Municipal Government of Tortosa is acting outside the current legal framework and violates rights in its municipal census registry process. That is why the Ombudsman has suggested that it modify its municipal census registration process so that the certificate of occupancy not be a mandatory requisite.

Seminar held in conjunction with the Ombudswoman of Barcelona

M. Assumpció Vilà and Rafael Ribó hosted a seminar conceived to facilitate exchange and coordination of both institutions' activities. The novelties arising from the Children's Rights and Opportunities Act, and the situation of unaccompanied immigrant minors were the two topics discussed over the course of the session, held November 17. It was the fifth time that the two Ombudspersons had met in such a scenario. The first was in November 2006.

Investigation into administrations' actions in mortgage foreclosures

Although most of the problems are private, arising between financial institutions and the persons who signed mortgage loans, as the right to housing is a statutory and constitutional right, the Catalan Ombudsman is seeking to investigate the steps taken by the administration in this area. That is why Ribó has addressed the Autonomous Ministry of the Environment and Housing to request information on the actions and measures taken to manage this problem.

The Catalan Ombudsman takes stock of the institution's cooperation programs in Serbia

The legal aid program that is being carried out in various municipalities of the autonomous province of Vojvodina has assisted 4,914 people in the past three years (2008-2010), of whom 4,136 have requested free legal aid, and 778 in-court representation. The Catalan Ombudsman's support for the Serbian Ombudsman has taken place in two concrete subjects: the rights of children and of persons deprived of liberty, in addition to a third cross-disciplinary area, communication.

The Catalan Ombudsman's office will receive visits in Badalona on December 16.

The Catalan Ombudsman's office will travel to Badalona next Thursday, December 16th to field complaints and queries on public administrations, and also companies that provide services of public interest (utilities and telephony). Sant Andreu de Llavaneres signs an individualized supervision agreement with the Catalan Ombudsman

Among other things, individualized supervision consists of an annual report describing the status of complaints handled on the municipalities in question, and statistics on the queries fielded by the Catalan Ombudsman from persons and organizations in Sant Andreu de Llavaneres. Furthermore, the Catalan Ombudsman's team will make regular visits to the municipality to meet with the persons and organizations wishing to file complaints against the administrations or enter queries. Residents of Sant Andreu de Llavaneres will have access to envelopes (with prepaid postage) to send their complaints directly to the Catalan Ombudsman.
