The
Catalan Ombudsman joins Twitter |

On June
15th the Síndic (Catalan Ombudsman) will join the social network
Twitter. The account @sindicdegreuges will be a new way to make the
Ombudsman and its activities better known and to be more accessible
to citizens.

Investigation
on police intervention in Plaça de Catalunya |

The
Catalan Ombudsman opened an ex-officio action to determine if the
Catalan Autonomous Police acted disproportionately on May 27th,
making way for a cleaning crew in Barcelona's Catalunya square,
where protesters had been camping for 12 days. Also, the Catalan
Ombudsman has received complaints from people injured by the Police
and from representatives of organizations and institutions unable to
carry out their duties as they were being asked by the
protesters.

Meeting
with the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture
(CPT) |

Catalan
Ombudsman, Rafael Ribó, and other members of his office will meet
the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) to
discuss the control mechanisms for the systems of deprivation of
freedom. CPT's team is currently in Spain to gather information for
its periodic report on torture prevention.

For the
first time in its history, the Catalan Ombudsman held a Conference
with the defenders of the private sector to set up a common
discussion framework. Due to society's evolution consumer rights are
becoming of greater importance, especially those related to basic
services.
