Conference on the Defence of Consumers Rights

The Catalan Ombudsman, jointly with Foment del Treball (Catalan Employers Organization) is setting up a Conference with the aim of discussing the scope of consumer rights and the best option for their guarantee. The Conference is being held on May 19, in Foment del Treball in Barcelona.

The Catalan Ombudsman will handle Spanair consumer claims

The Catalan Ombudsman and the airline Spanair have signed a doubled-purposed agreement. On the one hand, the Catalan Ombudsman is to be entitled to deal with the claims of Spanair customers whose rights might have not been taken into account; on the other hand, the airline is to offer the best service possible to their clients by improving the guarantees to their rights.

The Catalan Ombudsman reports shortcomings in the premises set aside for young offenders and those provided for abused children in the Legal district (Ciutat de la Justícia)

The shortcomings spotted entail an institutional mistreatment and a secondary victimization contrary to the Law for the defence of children and adolescent's rights and opportunities. Children and adolescents, allegedly abused or traumatized, continue to be held in units that are not only similar in kind but also next to those used for young offenders. Cells can be used as waiting rooms, sometimes up to 24 hours.
