Catalan
Ombudsman praises the current language model and urges the Authorities to
preserve it detaching it from the results of the sovereigntist
process |

Within
the framework of the International Symposium on Language Rights and Social
Cohesion in Multilingual Societies, the Catalan Ombudsman, Rafael Ribó,
stated the situation of language rights in Catalonia is a treasure that
must be preserved and promoted, thus, he will be suggesting both the
Parliament and the Catalan Government detaching it from the Catalan
process. Held in Barcelona on the 19th and 20th of March, the Symposium
was organized by the Ombudsman, along with the IALC (International
Association of Language Commissioners).

The
constituent assembly of IALC, a lead organization that aims to defend
language rights around the world, gathered in Barcelona representatives of
the institutions that are part of it, from Canada, Ireland, Belgium,
Kosovo, Finland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Wales and Catalonia. With this
event, the Catalan Ombudsman and the IALC did put an end to the
International Symposium on Language Rights, during which, both the Catalan
Ombudsman and the participant speakers reported that the Spanish
Government violates national and international mandates on
language.

Ombudsman
questioned the suspension of social services benefits related to
residential for dependants |

| Regarding the decision to suspend the individual programs of
care (PIA) on economic benefits related to residential service, the
Ombudsman asked the Department of Social and Family Affairs to restart
their processing and to take measures to ensure the dependants' subjective
right to receive benefits suited to their needs. |

Catalan Ombudsman, who took part in a debate on human rights policy at
regional level within the Congress of Regional Authorities of the Council
of Europe, referred to his efforts to prevent eviction and energy cuts. He
also referred to the draft law on Public Safety, which described as
disastrous in terms of human rights, and criticized ombudsmen's economic
resources are being questioned in many countries to threaten their
independence. |
