The
annual report on children's rights
submitted by the Catalan Ombudsman on the occasion of the 25th anniversary
of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, includes the main
shortcomings identified by the Ombudsman over the past year regarding
childhood. The Ombudsman notes that most vulnerable children have fewer
opportunities than others and tend to suffer violations of their basic
rights. Also, he proposes ten major challenges that need to be faced in
order to effectively implement the Convention. More information |

The Catalan Ombudsman proposes the right to water, electricity and gas be legally recognized |

The
Ombudsman of Catalonia, Rafael Ribó, submitted the report on the right to
basic supplies
and opened a public debate regarding the regulation and recognition of the
right to access essential supplies like water, electricity and gas. The
Ombudsman suggests a guaranteed and affordable minimum supply be fixed, as
well as a cumulative rate system be used to promote energy saving. He also
suggests the powers of the ombudsman for alternative dispute resolution be

Energy Poverty: Ombudsman urges the Catalan Government to sign agreements with the suppliers |

On the
occasion of the hearing in Parliament on energy poverty, Ombudsman Rafael
Ribó, criticized the suppression of the Decree law on energy poverty
following the constitutional motion filed by the Spanish Government. Also,
he requested deepest alternative measures beyond temporary deferrals.

Public transport: The Ombudsman insists that it is necessary to implement the integrated fare system |

The
Catalan Ombudsman welcomed the Government's announcement to freeze prices
of public transport , which is one of the main recommendations included in
the report on the price of public transport, submitted last July and
discussed in November in the Catalan Parliament. Rafael Ribó insisted,
though, that the homogenization of social rates of Barcelona's area should
be urgently carried into effect. More information |
