Catalan Ombudsman questions the inconsistencies of the Decree on Castor Platform and claims compensation for the victims |

Ribó urged parliamentary groups in Spanish Parliament to submit amends to
the law and requested the issue be brought before the Spanish
Constitutional Court and EU. He also claimed that consumers should not
bear the economic consequences of the cancellation of the project.
Regarding the damages caused by the earthquakes that took place in the
area closest to the gas storage, the Ombudsman requested that material and
moral damages be compensated and that environmental impact be

Ex officio action regarding leaks of information on financial investigations |
|||
The
Catalan Ombudsman initiated an ex officio action with regards to alleged
leaks by the Economic Crime Unit and the Attorney General Judicial Police
involving public figures and government representatives. In view of this
practice, the Catalan Ombudsman asked his Spanish counterpart to assess
the possibility of initiating and investigation. Learn more |

Recommendations to the City Council to promote same sex marriage equality |
|||
Following the objection of a Councilman to marry a lesbian
couple, the Ombudsman recommended the City Council to formally stipulate
that councillors who have some personal reserve to officiate these
ceremonies should inform about it right after being appointed. He also
warned that the public debate, as raised in this case, may violate the
right to privacy of the people involved. According the new Catalan law on
LGTB people, the Ombudsman should ensure its proper

Recommendation to deepen and make more independent the right of access to public information |
|||
Catalan Ombudsman appeared before Parliament to make an
assessment of the Bill on transparency and access to information and
answer to questions formulated by parliamentary groups. Advanced
democracies where transparency is monitored by Ombudsmen, such as Ireland
and Finland, were praised by Rafael Ribó. He also proposed to abolish the
excessive exceptions included in the Bill, according to the Convention 205

First Annual Joint report of regional Italian Ombudsmen |
|||
Invited by the national coordinator of regional Italian
defenders and the defender of the region of Tuscany, Lucia Franchini, the
Catalan Ombudsman, Rafael Ribó, spoke before the Italian Parliament on the
occasion of the presentation of the first Annual Joint Report that gathers
up the work made by each region or autonomous province defender. Ribó
defended the work of ombudsmen and insisted that their work and presence
are synonymous of good health of a democratic country. Learn more |
