The Catalan Ombudsman calls on good administration in the Castor case in view of a possible damage to consumers |
|||
Following the Royal Decree of the Spanish Government that
sets a compensation for the gas storage company Castor, the Catalan
Ombudsman considers that the measure harms gas consumers, who must bear
the cost of such compensation for 30 years through the bill. Rafael Ribó
is committed to bringing together all sectors involved in Catalonia in
order to study the extent of the Spanish Government's measure and also to
carry out joint actions with other defenders of the State. More information |

The Catalan Ombudsman requests the current language model be maintained and reinforced |
|||
The
Catalan Ombudsman, Rafael Ribó, submitted a Report on language rights in
Catalonia, developed with the aim of compiling the most relevant questions
published on language rights and protection made by the Catalan Ombudsman
and other institutions. According to the Catalan Ombudsman, the linguistic
coexistence in Catalonia today is a treasure that must be preserved and
encouraged. So do international organizations and observers. However, the
Catalan Ombudsman reports that the Spanish Government fails to meet the
constitutional and international mandates on language. More information |

Guarantees for the exercise of the right to vote from abroad |
|||
The
Catalan Ombudsman has recommended that the electoral regulation (both the
existing State one and the future Catalan law) incorporate more agile and
simpler mechanisms to vote remotely (via Internet) from anywhere. He has
proposed that state law eliminates the system of "requested in advance
vote" for foreign residents and for temporarily absent people. The issues
and challenges of abroad voting have been the subject of numerous
complaints and have affected participation rates. More information |

Recommendations to local councils aimed at ensuring the legality of tourist apartments |
|||
The
numerous complaints received by the Catalan Ombudsman caused by apartments
for tourist use are linked to users' behaviour since they do not respect
neither the rules of living together not the internal rules of procedure
of the property. Such situation has a negative effect on the neighbours'
right to peace and quiet. In view of the complaints for inactivity of the
local councils, the Catalan Ombudsman asked the local authorities to place
particular emphasis on the need to ensure that the economic activity in
the apartments for tourist use fully respects the law and the rights of
residents to live without undue inconveniences. More information |

particularities of families, reconciling work and family life, and the
implementation of economic benefits associated with a dignified
