The Catalan Ombudsman recommends public transport prices be adapted to the existing social reality |

The
Catalan Ombudsman, Rafael Ribó, has submitted a report on public transport
prices. The report comprises a series of recommendations addressed to the
Catalan Ministry of Territory and Sustainability and to the Catalan
Authority on Metropolitan Transport (ATM) to safeguard the right of people
to movility at affordable prices, particularly those groups sheltered by
the Catalan consumer Law. He suggests, among other measures, the existing
T-50/30 tickets to be replaced by a T-40/30 ticket, more appropiate to the
usual twice-a-day commuting pattern. He also asks for the T-10 ticket
price not to be increased above the Consumer Price Index (CPI)

The Catalan Ombudsman, backed by the Supreme Court sentence, stresses the need not to perform indiscriminated tests to determine the age on immigrant minors |

Following the Supreme Court sentence banning to perform
indiscriminated tests to determine the age on immingrant minors, the
Catalan Ombudsman has reminded that he has been defining his position in
this regard for years in order to ensure minors affected rights are
preserved. He also demands that the age stated on legal documentation of
minors involved should be taken into account. The Catalan Ombudsmans
insists on the need to apply the principle of proporcionality before such
age determination tests on unaccompanied migrant children are

Urgent changes needed on Spanish Mortgage Act |
|||
The
Catalan Ombudsman is satisfied with the sentence of the Court of Justice
of the European Union describing the Spanish Mortgage Act as abusive and
urges the Spanish Government to modify it and to soften the conditions
applied to consumers. The Catalan Ombudsman reminds that the Spanish
Parliament, irrespective of citizens' demands and the dire situation of
several households, rejected, early 2014, to discuss a bill on this matter
put forward by the Catalan Parliament on July 31, 2012. More information |

The Catalan Ministry of Justice lowes the prices in prison commissaries |

The
Catalan Ministry of Justice has informed the Catalan Ombudsman about its
acceptance of the recommendation aimed at lowering prices of goods on CIRE
shops (Commissaries) in penitentiary centers. Besides, the acceptance has
been followed by the first measures taken by the Centre for Reinsertion
Initiatives (CIRE). The law states that the price of goods offered in such
premises must not, in any way, be higher to the price of similar goods on
sale in shops around the penitentiary centre. The Catalan Ombudsman opened
an investigation in view of 27 complaints made by Brians 1 inmates on
abusive prices of basic goods. More information |

Cooperation agreement with the City Council of Calella |
|||
The
major of Calella, Montserrat Candini and the Catalan Ombudsman, Rafael
Ribó, have signed an agreement with the aim of promoting and provinding
the inhabitants of Calella easier access to the Catalan Ombudsman.
According to the agreement, the Catalan Ombudsman will make a follow-up of
matters concerning Calella, will have regular meetings with the City
Council and will submit an annual report on issues of concern. The
agreement also allows the Catalan Ombudsman to attend to the municipal
plenary meeting to describe in detail the report and to discuss it with
the municipal groups. More information |
