The Catalan Ombudsman refutes the figures of the state government over the cost of the Catalan Ombudman's activities and highlights its closeness to people

The Catalan Ombudsman, Rafael Ribó, claims that the figures submitted by the Spanish Government on the reform of the Administrations are "erroneous and the approach presented is not sufficiently respectful with the constitutional order". The Catalan Ombudsman considers that the Government "goes in the opposite direction to the recommendations of international bodies".

The Catalan Ombudsman calls for increasing speed of the basic broadband to two megabits

The Catalan Ombudsman, Rafael Ribó, who presented to the President of the Catalan Parliament, Núria de Gispert, the special report Broadband Internet access as a universal service: digital equality, has suggested such measure to meet the goals of the Digital Agenda for Europe 2020 (Fast and ultra-fast broadband) and the globalization of basic broadband by 2013. In the report, it is noted that there are situations of inequality and digital exclusion and a new telecommunications law is recommended.

Recommendation to the Foster Care Services to hand over to youngsters formerly in care the pensions perceived by the Catalan Government during tutelage

The Catalan Ombudsman has suggested to the Social Welfare and Family Department to promote the modification of the law that allows the Foster Care Services to keep the minors under guardianship's pensions. Prior to this legislation, the Foster Care Services processed such pensions and handed them over to youngsters once they reached legal age or the abandonment situation was over. The Catalan Ombudsman considers that minors under tutelage rights are being violated.

The Catalan Ombudsman commits himself to receive new complaints in Vielha and expresses his solidarity with those affected by the floods

Due to the floods occurred in the Val d'Aran last June 18, attention to people by the Catalan Ombudsman, scheduled for the same day, could not be performed normally. The Catalan Ombudsman will shortly propose a new date for people who could not use this service. Moreover, in view of the effects of the floods, the Catalan Ombudsman sent a message of solidarity to the affected ones.

International Day in Support of Victims of Torture

On the occasion of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, June 26, the Catalan Authority for the Prevention of Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment (ACPT), assigned to the Catalan Ombudsman, held, on Tuesday June 25, a commemoration act at the headquarters of the institution. A lecture by Barbara Bernath, from the Association for the Prevention of Torture, focused the event.
